“How My Female Friend Pushed Me Into Cocaine” - Veteran Yoruba Actress, Yetunde Wunmi

Taiwo Akinwande, popularly known as Yetunde Wunmi, is one of the most notable actresses in the Yoruba movie industry. She joined the acting world in 1981 as an apprentice under Sunday Akinola (Mogaji Feyikogbon) but later left in 1989 to team up with the Tate Alade Aromire. Yet the light-complexioned actress has appeared in so many movies that she has even lost count of them.

A few years ago, she was lured into cocaine business and attempt from her to go on first operation; she was caught and arrested by NDLEA at the Mur’tala Airport, Lagos Nigeria. In an interview she granted recently, Wunmi revealed how she was lured into the business by her female friend.

 When she was asked, she said, “I was introduced into the business by a friend, God is merciful to me. Do you know before I was introduced to it then, I used to say people selling it should be killed. But when I was arrested, I began to pray to God to bring me out of the problem. Then, acting was no longer lucrative, she told me to do it and the money she told me I will collect was huge, not thinking of the consequences. I decided to give it a try.wun I know God loves me, if I had been successful, maybe I will still be doing it. I haven’t even left the airport before I was caught and arrested. This is how it happened, when I got to the cocaine dealer, I swallowed the pills with Okro. He was happy I swallowed plenty. My hearth was so strong. When I got to the Airport, they told me I had cocaine in me.

After the scan, it was ordered that they should handcuff me. It was then I knew I was in deep shit. I couldn’t pray for 2 days. It was when they took me to my house I began to feel remorse. All my kids fainted on seeing me. They took my car. The second day, newspaper carried the news, so people were reading it and looking at me. The first statement that came out of my mouth was “God vindicate me”.” She further narrated that she knew she will be vindicated through her dream.

 “I got to know that in my dream. I had it 3 times before the judgment day. On that day, the court room was filled to the brim. I was sentenced to 3 years imprisonment or a fine of #1million. People didn’t know those who paid. They contributed it at the courtroom. The friend who pushed me into it didn’t show up even till this moment. I didn’t hear from her. All her mobile numbers are no longer available”, she said.

very sensible statement:---if i had been successfull maybe i will still be doing it,,,,that is the problem,,,,,many people in prison today because of drugs said only once then they will stop and venture into business,,,,,but the funny thing is that even when they make millions of naira they waste everything on senseless spendings at the end carry again and got caught,,,,,i still dont understand how some human brains function.......
