That’s a good thing because it all about redevelopment, safety and security. The whole market is not being demolished ….just a section.
I will not be surprised if some of these merchants were there illegally. I am sure they were well informed.

I don’t know why people are making it to be a tribal issue. Why is it always the case?
There ought to be law and order in society.
Ladipo market was shut down temporarily in 2013 for safety & security reasons.
In other words this should be no surprised to everyone.

I hope those involved in this evil knows what they are doing. They should please borrow a leaf from Tejuosho market. Since they built it how many Lagosians have been able to rent a shop at the place? The Ibo that would have done so have lost interest and left the place for them. Same thing will happen in Ladipo if care is not taken. Ibo's are not their problem. The problem of the Oba and those involved is complex. Inferiority complex borne out of envy

Don’t play the tribal card. Ladipo market is in a squalid state.
This market is a breeding ground for top-notch criminals.
Is Tejuosho market not functioning currently?
Oyingbo market went through the same thing. It was also redeveloped.

We complain too much but we cannot bear the pain of development or redevelopment.

Compare these pictures below:

It's a good development to you 'cos it doesn't affect you. There are people their lives depend on those stores and you should respect that.
You said "I am sure they were well informed" but the The Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the market, Kanayo Okonkwo, said "there was no notice to prepare the traders beforehand".
I think u should respect that before you jump to conclusion and that alone is there gross of not duly informed and again I quote them "During the demolition exercise, the traders were  reportedly  barred from entering the market to remove their goods".
Now tell me if it's you wouldn't you suspect something sinister.

It affected me indirectly because few of the merchants are tenants of my family.
I derive no joy in someone losing his or her livelihood. Yes it is going to be hard for them.
The fact is Ladipo market is in deplorable condition cum crimes among other things.
I doubt what Kanayo Okonkwo said even then they should be assisted and be compensated one way or the other.
A responsible government should always inform those concerned in a situation like this. Well we’ll find out very soon.

I just don’t like the race-card being toyed with for everything. We should all be asking the Lagos government to pay some kind of restitution...
....to these traders and relocate them rather than resort to ethnic bashing. I detest any form racism or tribalism…
....the reason why we are in this mess in Nigeria today.

Even with 36 states created we are still having tribal problems except the politicians taking advantage of our disunity.
Only one or two states are viable because most of these states are not sustainable.
I am even surprised some Nigerians are still advocating for more states.

Peter Obi did the same thing in Onitsha in 2013. He demolished Onitsha market.
How about Makoko eviction in 2012 affecting about half a million people or Maroko and Abuja demolition in 2013.
The list goes on and on and it is happening in almost every state if not all.

They made it clear that they do not want you in Lagos anymore. The Oba of Lagos said it clearly before the election that he will push you people into the Lagos Lagoon,so I do not know why you people are surprised. It is time you start thinking home. There is enough space to accommodate you at Asaba,Onitsha,Enugu,Aba,Abakaliki,Owerri,Nsukka,Umahia,Okigwe,Ohafia just to mention but a few.I hope this will be a lesson for you all,you better start thinking home before it is too late.
Really Oba of Lagos said that? I watched the raw video of what took place.

The same people crying all over this thread are the ones that will praise Gov. Obiano for demolishing illegal structure . These set of people don't care what happen in other people 's land ..........

Femjay you are right….. Let’s flash back a bit:

The Punch
JANUARY 19, 2013

Onitsha market demolished by Gov. Peter Obi in 2013
We’ve nowhere else to go, Onitsha bridgehead traders lament……

Gov. Obi & Commissioner for Local Govt, Azuka Enemuo

Tales of woe and despondency hung in the air as bulldozers deployed by the Anambra State Government roared through all the markets on the River Niger bridgehead end of the Onitsha – Enugu Expressway some days ago.

Shops and stalls gave way under the crushing impact of the bulldozers and the dreams of the affected traders in these markets vanished in the air.

It was the climax of a running battle with Governor Peter Obi, who had vowed to dislodge traders from the ‘illegal’ markets some months.

Not even allegations by Yoruba and Hausa traders that the plan to demolish the markets smacked of an ethnic agenda could do anything to sway the governor. He was determined to rid the highway of the markets.

The demolition of the markets was to give room for a beautification project that Obi had for more than six years planned to execute in Onitsha, the hotbed and commercial hub of Anambra State.

At one end of the bridgehead markets, distraught traders watched helplessly while bulldozers and other heavy equipment went to work crushing their shops and market stalls. At another end, where the demolition had yet to begin, hundreds of the traders scurried in and out of their shops like soldier ants to salvage what was left of their wares.

Mainly affected were the sections where goats, fruits, tomatoes, mattresses and some other items were sold. The demolitions did not only affect markets, as all the motor parks along the road were cleared.

A similar exercise near the River Niger Bridge four months ago nearly degenerated to an ethno-religious crisis when the mosque used by Hausa and Yoruba traders was demolished alongside other structures in the area.

It was only on Saturday that the Commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism, Chief Joe-Martins Uzodike, announced at a press briefing in Awka that the State Executive Council had taken a decision to demolish all markets along the expressway to give room for the beautification of Onitsha the gateway to the state.

Still counting their losses, most of the traders interviewed by SATURDAY PEOPLE could only lament the loss of the source of living they had been used to over many years.

Nobody, not even journalists, was allowed too close. Nobody was allowed to take pictures. Those who dared did so discreetly with their mobile phones.

You know I am beginning to see you as a highly opinionated and egoistic fellow ( I mean no insult ),the other day a fellow Nigerian jumped down from a 3 Storey building in either Malaysia or Indonesia and died, all you could say was that he was a drug dealer.I mean you were not there, you never knew the guy before but you just concluded that he was a drug dealer.Naa wa to you Bros. You should check your facts before you talk, now you are saying you doubt what Kanayo Okonkwo said ,meaning you are not sure, meaning you have not checked your facts, because if you are sure you would have been able to say what Kanoyo Okonkwo said is a lie or is true ,but you are saying you DOUBT,which means you are not sure, you are not sure yet you are making the LOUDEST argument, why not find out the facts and be sure before you come to make the LOUDEST argument here.Meanwhile no hard feelings.
