There was mild drama in Ajegunle area of Lagos State, on Wednesday, when a 10- year-old boy was caught by his father while having carnal knowledge with an eight-year-old girl, around 4.30pm. Investigation revealed that the boy, 10, invited the girl, 8, to their apartment situated at Idewu Street, and when she entered, told her to pull her clothes so that they ‘would do it.’ Emmanuel (not real name) and Anna (real name withheld) came back from school and as they were playing hide and seek in the premises, Emmanuel ran inside their apartment and she followed him. Emmanuel allegedly asked Anna to remove her clothes and undies and she did. Emmanuel and Anna climbed his father’s bed and were on it when his father, a commercial mini- bus driver, identified as David Udoh opened the door and saw the two kids having carnal knowledge. Mr Udoh was said to have dragged them outside before he raised the alarm. Anna’s mother, Sarah was said to have hollered that Emmanuel has taught her daughter a bad thing. An argument which degenerated into a quarrel ensued and both parents rained unprintable curses on themselves. The woman claimed that her daughter is too small to know what s*x is all about. Udoh on his part claimed that his son was innocent also. The two kids were asked what transpired and Anna said, “It was Emmanuel that told me to remove my clothes, including undies so that we could do it. I told him no and he pushed me to the bed and I pulled my clothes. He removed my pant.” One of their co-tenants, John Ukaegbu appealed to the two families not to quarrel over the incident since both kids are minors. Ukaegbu advised: “Probably you parents did not allow your children to sleep before performing the adult show. Children of nowadays are very wise. Allow them to sleep first if not, you are the people teaching them immorality. s*x should be a hidden thing,” he said. The two kids were flogged six lashes each before they were told to go and sleep in their respective apartments. They both promised not to commit such an act again.

This shows the importance of teaching segxwality education to children as early as possible in life. Unless these victims are counseled properly, they will find ways of going back to the acts. Beating is not the solution.
