The Kwara State Police Command has arrested two suspected cult members, who confessed to drugging their victims before killing and dispossessing them of their belongings.
The duo, Sijibomi Adeniyi and John Onucho made the confession when the police in Ilorin paraded them. They were also accused of being members of Eiye confraternity who were allegedly involved in the recent killing of two persons in Ilorin.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Ajayi Okasanmi, who paraded the suspects before newsmen along with three others arrested for criminal conspiracy and theft of vehicles, said the suspects added a painkiller called “tramadol” to a soft drink, which he used to drug his victim before committing the crime.
“In a bid to arrest perpetrators of the last cult clashes in Ilorin which led to the killing of two young men, the command in addition to suspects earlier arrested and charged to court also picked up Adeniyi Sijibomi (18) and John Onucho (25) last week, with the arms used in the dastardly act.”
The PPRO said two locally made pistols, two live cartridge and one expended cartridges were recovered from the suspects.”
Speaking further, he said “In another development, on August 17 based on a complaint made by one Bidemi Adewole of Sapati Ile area Ilorin, two suspects Adeniyi Sijibomi and Tosin David of the same area and members of a cult group conspired to kill the complainant using a poison laden Lacasera drink. The suspects confessed committing the act with a view to dispossessing her of her sales proceeds.”
Also paraded by the police were three car snatchers, Kehinde Olumo, Alhaji Oba Suleiman and Olayinka Jimoh who allegedly conspired to steal and buy stolen cars.
The police image maker said the suspects specialised in removing engraved wind screen, and rear glasses of stolen cars and replacing them with new ones before selling to unsuspecting members of the public.
“Through the intensified efforts of the men of the command’s Intelligence and Investigation Department, members of interstate vehicles thieves especially from Lagos, Ogun and Oyo States were arrested at Ilorin on August 17 by the Anti-Car Theft Unit of the command.” Okasanmi said investigation revealed that the suspects were confirmed car snatchers.
