Quote
Our family, like the rest of the world, were woken up in the early hours of Saturday, 26th December, 2009 to the news of an attempt to blow up a plane by a young Nigerian man, who was later identified as Umar Farouk AbdulMutallab. Umar Farouk AbdulMutallab is the son of Alhaji (Dr.) Umaru AbdulMutallab, the head of this Family.

Prior to this incident, his father, having become concerned about his disappearance and stoppage of communication while schooling abroad, reported the matter to the Nigerian security agencies about two months ago, and to some foreign security agencies about a month and a half ago, then sought their assistance to find and return him home.

We provided them with all the information required of us to enable them do this. We were hopeful that they would find and return him home. It was while we were waiting for the outcome of their investigation that we arose to the shocking news of that day.

The disappearance and cessation of communication which got his mother and father concerned to report to the security agencies are completely out of character and a very recent development, as before then, from very early childhood, Farouk, to the best of parental monitoring, had never shown any attitude, conduct or association that would give concern. As soon as concern arose, very recently, his parents, reported it and sought help.

The family will continue to fully cooperate with local and international security agencies towards the investigation of this matter, while we await results of the full investigation.

We, along with the whole world, are thankful to Al-Mighty God that there were no lives lost in the incident. May God continue to protect us all, amen.

Finally, as the matter is being investigated by the various agencies, and has already been mentioned in a US court, the family requests that the press should regard this as the only statement it will make for now.

Thank you.
Signed

The Mutallab Family

Blame northern elite – Tsav
By John Alechenu, Abuja, Published: Monday, 28 Dec 2009

A retired Commissioner of Police, Alhaji Abubakar Tsav, has said the northern elite is to blame for the misadventure of Farouk Abdul-Mutallab, who was recently charged with terrorism in the United States of America.

Tsav said this in a telephone interview with our correspondent in Abuja, on Sunday.

He said that the penchant among the elite to send their children and wards to schools in the Middle East was a growing source for concern.

The retired police chief described Abdul-Mutallab’s action as sad and condemnable.

He said, “It is sad indeed. This is the problem when our rich people here in the North send their children to study in Arab countries where discipline is lacking.

“These children are brought up in indiscipline and their parents (literally) worship them; because they are ‘religious,’ they do as they please. The result is what we are seeing today.

“If somebody is truly religious, he should have respect for human lives. Islam is a religion of peace and those who truly subscribe to it must embrace peace and respect the sanctity of human life.”

Tsav wondered why the suspect carried his discontent to a foreign land when there was enough to be sad and angry about in Nigeria.

He said, “If there is discontent, it should be here in Nigeria; we are suffering here, the gap between the rich and the poor is widening everyday

Sounds strange. Who knows, what is the truth?

Thank GOD that this terrorist did not succeed.

It is putting another bad mark on the nigerian nation and on muslims.

Most muslims r living their religion peacefully. Hope that ppl see the difference, that only those fanatic terrorists misusing the koran for their insane acts and taking the average good muslim in trouble with it. Something like "holy war" does not exist and is nowhere written in the koran. Besides the new testament of the bible is also part of the koran.

@ belhushe

That s what i was saying: The koran (so we write it in german) has adopted the new testament from the holy bible. The main point here, which i was trying to bring out, is that we should be careful in judging muslims. Those terrorists r misusing the koran,  brainwashing and using muslims for their insane actions.

I doupt, that a secondary education in nigeria would have saved him from this terror act. If that so, then everybody should be educated in nigeria. That would be a wonderful solution then do defend future terrorists. lol

Every normal human beeing loves life and would not even try such a terror act. It has nothing to do with "typical nigerian".
