About 45 suspected Boko Haram fighters have been arrested in Lagos following intelligence reports that they were planning to bomb an affluent neighbourhood, Dolphin Estate, in the Ikoyi area of the state.

PM News reports that the suspects were apprehended by operatives of the Directorate of Security Service (DSS) and have been charged to court. Some of the suspects were Abuyi Sheriff, Babagana Ali, Abass Ibrahim, Abubaka Grema, Kabiri Ibrahim, Mustaph Mohammed, Usman Mohammed, Modu Amsami, Isa Agafi, Adamu Jebili, Saja Kamba, Abba Sagoma, Mallam Buchu, Abdul-Kareem Abba, Babagana Koloye, Usman Buka, Adamu Mohammed, Lawal Mohammed, and Tela Abana. Also arrested are Mustapha Mohammed, Isa Agafi, Belo Modu, Kachala Babagana, Modu Abu, Alhaji Modu Mustapha and many others.

An affidavit presented at the Isolo Magistrates’ court stated that the group had planned to carry out the attack in the city in September 2015. When DSS operatives got wind of the planned attack, they reportedly condoned the area and subsequently arrested the suspects before they could carry out the bomb attack.

The DSS recovered arms from the suspects and were able to get confessional statements from them about the planned attack. The DSS requested that the court remand the suspects in prison pending the completion of investigations. The security operatives explained that they acted following an alarm that Boko Haram fighters had relocated to Lagos with the intent to wreak havoc in the state. They said they mounted surveillance which eventually led to the arrest of the suspects. The magistrate ordered that the suspects be remanded in Kirikiri maximum prison pending the completion of investigations by the DSS.
