Governor Ben Ayade of Cross River state is set to appoint 700 aides next week as he finalises on all political appointees that will be brought on board in his administration.  According to The Union, this is coming as the state government is yet to issue appointment letter to over 1, 500 Green Police and 1, 000 garment factory workers. The workers were reportedly subjected to various scrutinises but were yet to be given appointment and offices. The Chief Press Secretary (CPS) to the governor, Christian Ita said: “Once all appointments have been made, Gov Ayade would have brought additional 700 people into the state’s payroll” Ita also explained that the intention of bringing so many people into government was borne out of the governor’ desire to expand government as a way of reducing poverty, increasing democratic participation and improve the value of service delivery.
At the time the Cross River state House of Assembly confirmed 25 commissioner- nominees last month, it was confirmed that as much as 300 special advisers would be appointed by the governor. Just about a month ago, reports had surfaced that nominees for appointments as commissioners in the state are to undergo a compulsory aptitude test before confirmation.
It was gathered that Governor Ayade has already set up a selection committee to oversee the process.
