According to reports, registrar of the institution, Mr. Sam Egwu, signed a release which showed that the affected students are those who gained admission into the Work and Study Programme (WASP) from year 2000- 2006 and are yet to graduate.
He said:
Quote
In line with the five-year WASP normal duration for degree programmes and four years for Direct Entry programmes respectively, the students after 15 years are yet to graduate.”“The action has been approved by the WASP Board and the Senate of the university respective but now said that special waiver would be given for extension of the programme by obtaining programme extension form from the WASP office at CAS campus of the university on payment of N2000
.”
The affected students, in response, has accused the university of frustrating the students. They referred to the action taken as unfortunate, uncalled for and urged the state governor, Chief Dave Umahi, to overhaul the management of the institution as most of them are either corrupt or not serious with the programme.
We got admission into the programme in 2001 and wrote our final exam in 2006 but between then and now, the institution is yet to either compute our results or make available the result to us.“The programme is an avenue the institution is currently using to extort money from poor Ebonyi indigenes and 90% of the students that enrolled into the programme between 2000 and 2006 are yet to graduate,” they said.
The expelled students, yesterday, protested the expulsion and stated that on several occasions, some prominent students of the programme had threatened to drag the institution to court which prompted them to compute and issue results to them while others are left to their fate.
They further noted that they would adopt all legal means to ensure that the institution issue them with their result, pointing out that they would not allow themselves to suffer because of the lack of purpose of the institution.

15 years for a degree or whatever programme the university is running is too long and absurd.
