The Nigerian Governors Forum, NGF has welcomed a unanimous claim by its members about their inability to pay the stipulated minimum wage due to the highly dwindling federal allocations to the state.

Thirty-six States Governors have said that they can no longer pay the N18,000 minimum wage to workers owing to the poor state of the economy, Vanguard reports.

Rising from a crucial meeting that ended at the early hours of Thursday at the Old Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa, Abuja the Nigerian Governors Forum, NGF, said that the dwindling prices of oil had drastically affected their States’ income.

Specifically, they said that the burden of the wage was lighter when oil sold at $126 as against the current $41 per barrel. They therefore sought to have audience with President Muhammadu Buhari on the economy, resolving that the only way out of the quagmire was to diversify the economy to agriculture and mining.

Reading the communique issued at the end of the meeting, the Chairman of the Forum and governor of Zamfara state, Abdulaziz Yari hinted that the Forum also backed the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) over the N2.1trillion sanction  on MTN.

According to him, the governors agreed that the fine must be paid in full.

see greedy and wicked set of idiots that called themselves governors. d #18000  is it up to the amount they use for breakfast? they spend on series of their girl friends? these selfish animals don't even realise that d civil servants they intend cutting their salaries are family people. i expected to hear that they will equally reduce d number of their numerous S.As  and P.As, their first ladies monthly allocation,  kichen votes, security votes, estacodes, their salaries, entourage, fleet of cars etc. When d oil was booming, non of them found it nessessary to increase civil servants salary, even most of them were still complaining and owing. I wish to state here that any governor who feels that d resources available to run d affairs of his state is low and he can not manage it,let him honourably resign.

Nigeria should go back to the 12 States structure and the money been wasted for 24 governors and their State houses of assembly members and
The senate should not be more than 36 senators, and 48 members in the house of representatives. There  Would be more than enough money to pay
#100,000 minimum wage to workers in Nigeria. This so called governors were not even afraid to tell Nigeria workers that they can not pay #18,000
minimum wage, when the now ruling party had promised to pay #5,000 monthly to jobless citizens... Grin Grin Grin

My broda, u have said all there is to say, exactly wats on my mind. It's always the masses that will suffer on their account. Is it not the other day cross river governor said he's going to appoint 700 abi na 1000 aides, and they will all be paid with government money, yet they can't pay minimum 18k wage, amount that they can never give their children as pocket cos it's an insult to them. Na GOD go judge all of them. Bastards!  Angry Angry

Greedy, wicked lot. You live large & loot our treasuries daily. You make so many millions each month, but seek to impoverish innocent citizens further. God punish you all. Why not seek ways to increase your individual state's internally generated revenue instead, or are you too dense to do so?
