Residents of Tapa Community in Ebute-Meta area of Lagos State, have called on Governor Akinwunmi Ambode to come to the aid of a 32-year-old mother of two detained at Denton Police station for allegedly reporting the death of her neighbour to the police.
The woman, identified as Gbemisola, they alleged was being detained for her inability to pay N80,000 to bail herself from the police.
The residents claimed that trouble started for the mother of two, sometime in November when the apartment of one of her neighbours called Timothy was gutted by fire. Gbemisola was said to have raised alarm that attracted others who assisted in putting out the fire.
One of the residents who spoke on the condition of anonymity said, the arrest and detention of the woman came as a surprise to everybody in the community.
She said: “We were sleeping when the deceased’s neighbour raised alarm about the fire incident; we all rushed to the building and put out the fire. Few days later, there was serious odour enveloping the community. So, some concerned youths went into the deceased’s apartment only to find his bloated body on the floor and that was what prompted the neighbour to report the matter at the station.
“When we heard about the woman’s arrest and detention, we went to the station in an attempt to persuade the Investigation Officer to release her only for us to be told that we should pay N80,000 or she would be charged to court for murder and arson.
“We are appealing to Governor Ambode to come to the aid of the woman because she is suffering over what she knew nothing about.” For more scintillating and juicy stories, follow the official Naijapals accounts On Twitter - https://twitter.com/Naijapals and Facebook - www.facebook.com/naijapals

I think this was d reason why that uniform refused to help that sick man on 3rd mainland bridge. If he help and that man die, the police won't say he is a uniform man cos he will be detain and force to write statement. Naija police see na wa for dem ooo!
