The Lagos State Government on Wednesday demolished the Owonifari Market at Oshodi which has been in existence for more than 40 years.
The Lagos State government had closed the market to curb security challenges within the Oshodi metropolis.
According to the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Steve Ayorinde, the move was geared towards the need to sanitise and beautify the Oshodi area and bring transformation, in particular, to the Owonifari area, as well as the entire bus stop terminal, which had been constituting a menace and an eyesore in the locality.
However, traders are lamenting at the destruction of their shops, as they are said to have lost goods worth millions of Naira

These people that have shops here, how are they going to earn a living?...how are they  going to feed their children and families.....how are they going pay for their house rent and other expenses?................The problem with the government is that a lot of policies are made without looking for solutions to the unforeseen consequences.....crime rate will go up..........kidnapping ,robberies and money rituals will be the long term consequences of these actions today...welcome to lagos

They have rendered almost 2,0000 pple jobless. Dat particular section of d market well organised. They have time to close d gate and time to open. If they say d market is old and they want to renovate it, fine but say harbour criminal, nah I disagree. Instead they shld check all their motor parks. Wen Fashola was there, he made sure he clean up oshodi and even drove all those touts away. Oshodi was lighten up.
