The city of New York claims the government of Nigeria owes her $4.1 to $16 million in real estate taxes and interest on the Manhattan building that houses Consulate General of Nigeria. The building is located at 828 2nd Ave. (Corner of 44th St. & 2nd Ave.), New York, NY 10017, U.S.A.

New York City on Monday filed a lawsuit against Nigeria in US federal court demanding payment for back taxes and interest. Generally, globally, diplomatic offices are tax exempt, and this is the case in the U.S. New York City argues parts of Nigeria’s building had been used for commercial purposes, including housing of Nigeria Airways offices.

If indeed any part of the Nigerian Consulate in NY is being used as a commercial venture then tax should be payable. I am however rather bemused, that Nigerian Airways (which has been defunct for many years) is the identified commercial venture!!! Is Nigeria Airways still flying in the USA?
It is common knowledge that Nigerians are generally deemed to be fraudulent, what we need to stress is that not all of us are!!! Huh? Embarrassed Sad Angry Roll Eyes Shocked

Na wa to America o’

Abeg o’  biko,

help me ask their them; how are they sure say the caban is commercialized plus why they have not been aware of this until the Muttalab’s attempt. To my mind, American Gov is looking for any available means to take on my Dear nation and that is too down for the united nation. The United-Nation is not what makes them thick, but their Image-Nation. Therefore, they should be reasonable with the way they follow issues, because they are expected to be an example to all the nations of the earth.

They should knw that our Government has nothing to do with the attempt to bomb America never!!!, but that was a function of a stupid personal interest by that loco Muttalab and as a result of their political beef with the terrorist group. we as Nigerians put our trust in GOD may peace be unto the U.S

Generally, globally, diplomatic offices are tax exempt, and this is the case in the U.S. New York City argues parts of Nigeria’s building had been used for commercial purposes, including housing of Nigeria Airways offices.

The airline was created under the name of West African Airways Corporation (Nigeria) in 1958 as a result of the dissolution of the West African Airways Corporation (WAAC). WAAC (Nigeria) inherited the assets and liabilities of WAAC; its name was later changed to Nigeria Airways. It was initially created as a joint venture between the Nigerian government, the British Overseas Airways Corporation (BOAC), and Elder Dempster, with the Nigerian government holding a controlling interest of 51 percent of shares. This partnership broke up on March 25, 1961 when BOAC and Elder Dempster agreed to sell their shares to the Nigerian government.[2]

The Nigerian Airways needed to be in that building because Nigerian Airways is owned by the federal government of Canada.  Americans really need to study and understand Nigeria.  We do not owe them any money.  The Nigerian Airways is owned by the Federal Government of Nigeria.  We are being harassed for no reason at all in this particular case.

God bless Nigeria!  Please pray for Nigeria.  Things are not always as it appears.  Do not be quick to condemn Nigeria.  Pray for our leaders.  Blessed are those that bless Nigeria.

Remain blessed.

Nigeria must counter sue.  The U.S. government owes the Federal Government of Nigeria over 10 billion dollars USD for this insult.  Regardless of whether it is commercial or not commercial use, the Nigerian Airways is owned by Federal Government of Nigerian, and the government is exempt from all taxes and Nigerian Airways is the property of the Federal Government of Nigeria.  Whether the Nigerian Airways is defunct or not defunct we have the right to be in that building without harassment.  We are operating under our rights.  It does not take a lawyer to see the holes in the US case.  The US government have an agenda against Nigeria.

I am getting peeved at the constant harassment of Nigeria by the US government.

Nigeria and Nigerians need to face the truth and realize that problems are coming at us with full force and that we must stick together and pray for our country and for each other.

God bless Nigeria.  God bless Africa!

Remain blessed to all Nigerians.
