to have thrown pebbles, pure water sachets and
slippers at the Kano state governor, Abdullahi
Ganduje, on Sunday, February 29.
Ganduje, who attended the football game that
saw Kano Pillars defeat Wikki Tourists of Bauchi
State, 2:1, had to be rushed out of the stadium
by his security aides.
As soon as the final whistle was blown, the
angry mob were said to have chanted “Ba
mayi” (we don’t want you) at the governor and
his entourage and subsequently proceeded to
throw objects at the governors vehicle.
According to a source who spoke to Sahara
Reporters, the mob action was due to
frustrations that have built up overtime because
the club management and state government
have failed to release funds to recruit new
players for the club.
Furthermore, the mob are said to have been
angry over the appointment of Kabiru Baita as
chairman of Kano pillars, with many accusing
him of planting hate in the club.
The Kano state government is yet to comment
on the development.
