Suspected herdsmen shot dead a staff of the Delta State University and a farmer at his farm in cold blood in Abraka.
Evans Iwhurie, a member of the Delta state House of Assembly, lamented the menace of some Fulani herdsmen in the area.
The lawmaker representing Ethiope East constituency revealed that suspected herdsmen shot dead a staff of the Delta State University and a farmer at his farm in cold blood in Abraka.
He added that one of the victims was a 52-year-old Francis Okotie, a father of 8 and a senior staff of the university attached to the university library.
Speaking about the tragic incident, Iwhurie said that Okotie was shot twice, on his arm and head, in an execution style at his palm oil plantation farm where he had gone to fumigate.
Iwhurie noted that a similar incident has recently happened in the area. An indigene of Abraka Philip Obayendo was shot and matcheted in pieces by his assailants at his farm at Oria-Abraka.
“Though this is a menace that has been occurring around the country, these two cases are a few of many that have befallen the people of my constituency especially at the Abraka area,”
On Friday, April 8, former presidential candidate Chief Olu Falae was attacked by some hoodlums suspected to be Fulani herdsmen.
His guard’s body was found by a search party in a dam on the outskirts of the Social Democratic Party leader’s farm two days after the incident had occurred.
