Emmanuel Akindele, one of the three accused persons in the alleged N44 million Bond Chemical industry’s fraud, on Friday admitted that his wife paid three million naira for his freedom.
Akindele, an auditor; Edward Adejumo, General Manager Finance; and Willie Ibeneme with others now at large, were arraigned in 2013 for defrauding the company.
They were arraigned on an eight-count charge bothering on conspiracy, forgery and theft of N44 million. Akindele admitted that his wife paid the money to the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, Oyo State, with the hope that the case would be settled out of court.
The accused made the admission during cross-examination by the Prosecutor, Mr Michael Osusuan who handed the police statement he made on Jan. 5, 2011.
Akindele denied ever having anything to do with either conspiring or stealing N44 million while working as the auditor with the pharmaceutical industry.
