UN APPOINTS D'BANJ AS YOUTH AMBASSADOR FOR PEACE

The next time you sight Oladapo Daniel Oyebanjo a.k.a. D’Banj, do address him as ‘AMBASSADOR D’BANJ’. The 27 year old pop artiste was recently appointed as a Youth Ambassador for Peace by the United Nations Youth Association of Nigeria (UNYA – NIG), thereby adding yet another feather to the cap of this prolific young man. Earlier in the year, he was honoured as an ambassador from Ogun State by Governor Gbenga Daniel. He has won up to five different awards this year alone both in Nigeria and outside Nigeria. He has been nominated in four categories in the coming Channel O Awards, as well as MOBO awards, and not forgetting his coming performance with Black Eye Peas on the 14th of October on Pepsi’s platform. Before we forget, D’Banj has also been marked as the compeer for the coming Channel O spirit of Africa Awards. Earlier this year he did the same at the HipHopWorld Awards. According to D’banj “for me it is a big award, the United Nations is big organization; I’m very proud and very honoured. I’m looking beyond my music right now, since they see me as a role model to children and young people, I’m looking at how I can affect them just the way my music is already affecting them” As stated in the official letter from UNYA-NIGERIA, signed by Ambassador Oluwatobi Fakayode, D’Banj will be Nigeria’s first United Nations Youth Ambassador for Peace. UNYA – NIG is the Nigerian arm of the World Federation of United Nations Association Youth (WFUN – Youth). The appointment is meant for personalities of distinction who enjoys national – global goodwill. The personalities are seen as agents of change vis-à-vis promoters of peace. The personalities are also picked under the age of 30 years but the office runs through till the person is 35years. Benefits accorded to this office include lifetime membership of UNYA till 35years as well as rights/diplomatic affiliation/status/recognition in all the 109 UN countries. His official decoration where he will be issued a certificate of affiliation, ambassadorial badge and UN Youth ID will take place on Sunday, the 21st of October, 2007. This day is also the ‘International Day of Peace.’
