The African union is introducing a common passport that will allow visa free access to all 54 member states. Superseding existing national documents.
The electronic passports will be unveiled at the AU summit in Kigali, Rwanda, later this month, where they will be issued to heads of state and senior officials. The Union aims to distribute them to all African citizens by 2018.
African Union Director for Political Affairs Dr. Khabele Matlosa believes easing access restrictions for travel within the continent will reduce the number of people embarking on dangerous migration routes.

''Opening borders will have a profound effect for workers at the lower end of the scale. "We have a problem now that young people are risking their lives to cross the Sahara Desert or travel on boats to Europe, If we open opportunities in Africa we reduce that risk."

Just some little colonial mentality is impeding our vast potential ,once this is barricade is crossed there is no limit to Africa strength and achievement ,now Africa can claim its status on global stage .Economy integration will definitely increase our development in all institutions .The benefit outweighs the fear of closing border on ourselves .In this modern world ,integration is key to economy growth.It will boost tourism beyond description ,and increase trust among young generations .It will create so many awareness and understanding more about Africa multi culture .It is long over due ,but implementing it at this critical economy uncertainty is a positive test for African to believe better day is ahead .

its good but high intelligent security measures be put in place first like that of states in Europe or America before commencing the visa free travelling around Africa.
