Delta State Police Command, has arrested a 37 years old man, Mr Chukwuma Udenwa in Okpanam, Oshimili North Local Government Area, Delta State for ‎dumping his father’s corpse in a septic tank.

The man who hail from Uli in Ihiala Local Government Area of Anambra State, was arrested after his landlord raised alarm on discovering a decomposing corpse in one of the septic tanks in the compound.

The suspect who is a bricklayer had reportedly told his neigbours that one of his sisters living in Ibusa, near Asaba brought his 83 years old sick father, Mr John Udenwa to his house.

Udenwa who was detained at the Okpanam police station before he was transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation, confessed to the crime on interrogation.

The middle aged man who has a wife and three children, said he had to dump the body of his late father in the septic tank since he had no money to take the corpse to the mortuary.

Meanwhile, the suspect had told some of his neighbours that the father passed on and the corpse had been deposited in ‎Maduemeze Hospital mortuary only for the corpse to be discovered in their septic tank.

Contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO in the State, SP Celestina Kalu said the suspect would be arraigned in court under section 242 of the criminal code.
