In the wake of plagiarism accusations, Garba Shehu, Media aide to President Buhari has apologized for the faux pas and sanctioned the officer responsible.
President Buhari was accused of plagiarising a speech made by President Obama in 2008 and adopting elements of the speech to his Change Begins with me speech.
Garba said this in a statement stating that Buhari has called for swift action against the official responsible.
The statement said; “President Muhammadu Buhari has ordered that prompt and appropriate disciplinary action be taken against those responsible for a wrongful insertion in his speech delivered on September 8, 2016 at the launch of the “Change Begins with Me’’ campaign.
“It was observed that the similarities between a paragraph in President Obama’s 2008 Victory Speech and what President Buhari read in paragraph nine of the sixteen-paragraph address while inaugurating the Campaign on Thursday, September 8, 2016 are too close to be passed as coincidence.
“There was a mistake by an overzealous staff and we regret that this has happened.
“Already, a Deputy Director in the Presidency has accepted responsibility for the insertion of the contentious paragraph.
“This serious oversight will be investigated thoroughly and appropriate sanction meted.
“The Presidency wishes to state in the clearest possible terms that it regrets this unfortunate incident and will ensure that this does not happen again.
“President Buhari urges Nigerians to look beyond this incident and focus on the message of change which the country needs in order to restore our cherished value systems.”

only an idiot would expect Buhari to read, and memorize all the speeches made by all heads of states in the world since he was born. it's the speech writers fault. They are paid to write speeches to suit the president's message. so clearly Buhari is not at fault.

He can go on and on to copy speeches, could he implement them that is the big question. It is only fools like Buhari himself that will continue to defend his incompetence. They did all they could to package him during the elections even keeping him away from electoral debate, still that was not a favour for him. A first calss illitrate, now he is off again to New york to disgrace himself. Those that will come out to defend him later should go there and do the speech themselves rather than isue apology later.
