The late Stella was alleged to have taken Azeez to Basi Night Club at Surulere, Lagos where they drank and had sex.
The outing turned tragic when the lovers had an accident on their way home and she died on the spot before she was rushed to a hospital.
P.M.NEWS gathered that Azeez, a company driver had gone to the night club with his company’s Toyota Yaris car with registration number PX 367 AAA and after the outing, decided to take his lover home with the car but hit an electric pole. The woman died in the accident.
Following the accident, relations of the deceased who blamed Azeez for her death, got him arrested and charged with murder at the Surulere Magistrate’s Court.
The charge sheet reads: “That you, Azeez Igbalajobi, 27, on the same date and time and place did drive in a dangerous manner on an expressway and caused the death of Stella Nweze, an offence contrary to Section 27 of the Road Transport Act (RTA), Cap.172, Vol. 2, Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2003.
He pleaded not guilty to the charge and Magistrate A.O. Gbajumo granted him bail in the sum of N250,000 with two sureties.
The court ordered that one of the sureties must be a blood relation and a payment of N100,000 must be paid into the Chief Registrar’s account.
The matter has been adjourned till 27 March, 2010 for the DPP advice.
