Governor Murtala Nyako of Adamawa State said that the state government would not sponsor any pilgrim from the state for pilgrimage to Saudi Arabia or Jerusalem.

The governor announced this in Yola on Tuesday while receiving the 2009 Hajj report from the Leader of the 2009 Hajj pilgrims, Alhaji Barkindo Musdafa.

He, however, noted that the government would ensure the welfare, comfort and security of the pilgrims during such operations.

Nyako emphasised that “the state government would morally continue to encourage and support indigenes in the performance of the pilgrimages to Saudi Arabia and Jerusalem.

“The support was necessary in view of the prevailing peace in the state, attributing it to prayers made by pilgrims from the state while in the holy land.”

The governor urged the state Pilgrims Welfare Board to start the preparation for the 2010 operations to enable the board to educate and guide the pilgrims on how best to perform the pilgrimage.

Earlier, Musdafa had described last year’s hajj operations as the most successful ever carried out by the state contingent to Saudi Arabia.

Good move. If people are not financially buoyant enough for the pilgrimage . Stay home

What a wast of money?I have never seen any developed Nation involving in religions matter thus spending such huge sum of money in the name of religion. This sum of money could serve other purpose like improving the hospitals standard for example.Let those that want to visit the so called holy land  do so on their own financial savings.

Wake up Nigeria wake up. Where in the developed world would you see a government wasting money on irrelevant journey? The money been used in the past could have gone into devloping Adamawa state. I am sure that the state has many unemployed men and women and many schools are not well funded either. The state officials should look well and think before wasting the tax payers money.

what is the propose of going all this places and wasted money that are suppose to used to build the wellfare of the state or to provide small scale of businesses, factories, social amenities for the poor areas in the country. I have not see any prayers they are going for like the muslim they will go Hijj to sponsor Terrorist in the country, so pilgrimages to Saudi Arabia and Jerusalem are not the solutions to solve poorvaties and crises in Nigerian now. If ur heart is good we don't to go someone country and for prayers hence it means the God you are servicing is not every where. I don't know why Nigerians Leaders mentalities are growing backward instead of forward.

there quite a numbers of developed nations that sponsors their citizens annually on pilgrmages , i for one not in supports of such as we have alot of things to do nwith the available funds , but its absolutely rubbish and out of common senses to call it irrelevants  journey or wasteful spending , it might serve as wast for a govt to embark on that , but its never a wast on an individual to embark on that journey of faith as recomended by our religion , being the last of the five pillars that carries the religion of islam

Nice one by government, but i think first thing first, there are so many nigerians suffering, i think any one that wants to go for pilgrimage should sponsor himself bcos there are so many problems in nigeria that needs to b tackled.Developed countries can sponsor their citizens, but as 4 9ja, i dont think we hav reached that level.

how many of so called damn alhaji can read the holy book and tell the meanings, most of them are doing it for doing sake not that they really know the important of going there, and more so going to the holy land is not a  guaranteed that one  will make heaven. the most important factor of a religion is to refference God as our creator also to learn about heavenly cultures and to pay much attentions to the rules and regulations of God so i see no reason why ppls are embarking on the journey they are not capable to foot the bills and again the so called governors that uses the state found to sponsors ppls on this trip is doing it for their believes that he can share from their blessings, secondly they are using that as a platform to draws ppls to vote them in the next election. going there to pray?does that mean that praying in ones home is not effective or what? i understand the christians that says that their going to the holy land is to see all the historic places written in the holy book not that their visit to the holy land is mainly for prayers. lastly those misused found can be well used for everybody benefits, i mean no arm nor bad belle for any body.

SO WHAT!!! Govt no govt, the Hajj will be attended as usual if not evn on a bigger scale. It is a calling from ALLAH (SWT) so muslims will sacrifice a great deal for such an important cause. I dont undrstnd why Xtians look for the slightest possible oppurtunity to throw cheap shots @ Islam. Its the fastest growing religion for a reason so say whateva but deal with it u must.
