President of the Living Faith church worldwide, aka Winners chapel, Bishop David Oyedepo, yesterday reacted to the corporate governance code saga that has led to the stepping down of the general overseer of Redeem, Pastor E. Adeboye, saying that the government has no power to retire any church leader when they did not employ them in the first place.

He made this statement while addressing His congregation at the ongoing 21 days prayer and fasting program of the year. In his words, the bishop said;
Quote
“You cannot make decisions on how long a prophet of God should lead when you were not even there when the commission started, you did not employ him, howbeit then that you can sack him?”

Bishop David Oyedepo further reiterated the church’s commitment to stand for the nation by its continuous intercession on Her behalf, for the nation to stand strong in these times.

The said code is however under suspension and currently being deliberated on by the House of Reps.

Can somebody tell Oyedepo that every church in a country must abide by the laws of the land, and the govt of the land has a duty to protect her citizens. The govt is a watchdog over all activities in the country, including the church leaders, their finances, congregation etc. If any church feels otherwise, it should leave the country to operate elsewhere. If armed robbers attack a church, the church looks for the police/army/govt to protect them and find solutions to the problem; but, when it comes to exploiting citizens and living large and high at the expense of the citizens, the church wants the govt of the country to stay away. Please it does not go that way Mr Oyedepo.
