In an interview with CNBC on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum (WEF) going on in Davos, Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote has said that he plans to grow the Dangote Group to a $100 billion dollar company, adding that he still has plans to buy English football club, Arsenal.

“I will but right now I have to focus on the projects that I have which are almost $18 bn, then I’ll concentrate and face Arsenal,” Dangote said.

Speaking on the impact of the depreciation of the Naira on the Dangote group, Dangote said: “There’s an impact but business is always ups and downs. We are in Africa for the long term, not only in Nigeria. If you’re in Africa or Nigeria for the short term then you shouldn’t be there. We are in it for the long term and I believe we’ll get out of the woods very soon.”

He also spoke on the Niger Delta Crisis and the power situation in the country.

How wonderful!! this man could afford to buy English soccer club but Nigerian national team cannot find sponsors, they starving, the poorly paid, they are often stranded in international arenas etc. Charity should begin at home please. If you cannot buy the national team, please organize a new team the Nigerians could be proud of. Buying Arsenal is boosting and enriching the economy of another country while Nigeria suffers; that move is no better than the polithiefians that hide stolen money in foreign accounts.

@kelvin500: we understand he is a businessman, but he is also a Nigerian. Nigerian youth needs help, in terms of jobs/employment and skill development. I know u have heard of "giving back to the community"m so buying Arsenal club is not giving back to our community, neither would it create employment in Nigeria. Please check the history of Arsenal, somebody bought or sponsored it and made it what it is today; so, he can do the same to those Nigerian soccer clubs we let down.
