The identity of the Nigerian man who died in an Oakland apartment building fire on March 27th, has been released after investigators tracked down his father in Osogbo, Osun State. The Alameda County coroner identified the 36-year-old gifted Nigerian Mathematician who battled mental illness, Olatunde Adejumobi. He died in a blaze blamed on an unattended candle that ripped through a three-story building at 2551 San Pablo Ave, Oakland, California. Two weeks after the fire, investigators tracked down Adejumobi's father in Osogbo with the help of the Nigerian consulate, said Alameda County sheriff's spokesman Ray Kelly.

More than a decade earlier, Adejumobi had studied for an undergraduate degree at the University of Cincinnati. He was a senior-to-be in 2004 when he came to UC Berkeley for a summer to research under a National Science Foundation program, according to Luca Trevisan, a professor at UC Berkeley who mentored Adejumobi,

"This is very sad news. I remember him well," Trvisan said. "About five years ago, in 2009, he got in touch again by email. Apparently he had suffered from mental health problems and had dropped out of school in Cincinnati"
he added.
