Earlier today we brought you reports that Mrs Taiwo Titilayo Momoh, was arraigned in an Ebute Metta Magistrate court for attempting suicide by jumping off 3rd Mailand Bridge, and was granted 500K bail. Reacting to this report, Ex-President Goodluck Spokesman has slammed the 'state' government for the arraigning the lady in court.

According to him,  it is an archaic law that is against the principles of natural justice and needs to be taken off our statute books.

He further wrote;

Quote
"A government that does not care if Fulani herdsmen kill us has the guts to charge a woman for attempted suicide! Are they angry she cheated herdsmen off her life? This is a tragedy of justice! They have not charged the killers of pastor Eunice Elisha who was killed in Kubwa, 15 minutes from Aso Rock Villa.

They have not charged the killers of pastor Eunice Elisha who was beheaded in Kano in broad daylight. They have not charged the killers of Southern Kaduna minorities. But it is Mrs. Titilayo Momoh who is overburdened by a debt she can't pay that they can try for attempted suicide. What a hopeless government!"

so long as it is still against the law, she should be appropriately charged. let the judge decide whether to free her, send her for psychiatric treatment or to jail.

the law was not written by Buhari.....it has been so ever since. why did the past govt not proscribe the law if they didn't want it.
even in the US, some states still see it as a crime.
the first step is for the govt to set aside the law, and then decide what to do with it.
Moreover, if the woman has a mental challenge, it is only a court that can force her to go for treatment.
we should not be deceived that having more money can stop suicide.  rich people also commit suicide.
