Now I dont know how I feel about this, but I would say, I strongly disagree with what the pastor did, but some part of me want to praise him as well. He refused to marry this couple because he felt the guy was taking advantage of the girl to gain papers in USA - the time came for him to ask the "do you take blah blah blah question" and pastor went off asking about papers and so on - once the pastor confirmed that paper issues, he hugged the bride and walked out, proclaiming that the man has no papers and it is a marriage of immigration, not a marriage of love! I do not think any pastor is in a position to make such life decisions for any grown adult and he is wrong for doing this and the way he did it, however, I think the groom (husband-to-be) is wrong as well, (forgive me if I am wrong), but the scenario works so much against him - how can you allow the pastor hug the woman you are about to marry and you claim to love her?  Why was there no consultation/counseling before the proper wedding especially since it is a church wedding? Naijapals, Dont get me wrong, I cant conclude now, because this man might decide not to protest because he is shy and embarrassed by not having papers, however papers does not define love! Love should be independent of him having papers or not - gistmania, simply put, he was accused and he did not deny, but all in all the pastor created a scene that was unnecessary, he should have handled the situation alot better, but who knows, he might have saved the young lady a life of heartbreak, or be the cause of her heartbreak if they were truly on love!, on the fence for this one, but the pastor's conduct is WRONG! no one should be interfering in people choosing their life partners (ofcourse except if you are Bill Gates, Dangote or Otedola)

i think the girl is the Pastor's daughter, so he doesn't want her to marry a man without residency papers.
he knew all along that he has no papers, because that event is not where you ask for papers

The pastor wrong at that moment, since he cares about the guy's papers he should have done that before the alter moment.

Oh, really! I thought so too, I couldn't fully hear what the pastor was saying, but seemed he said something like he is having dinner with the girl every night or something like that, so seems like a family drama, the man should know he cannot marry a girl without his father's blessing, let along the father is now the pastor! Omo PASITOR!

Bro.... So if she's truly the pastors daughter, then you think he'd  wait until that moment having known they've been dating for quite sometime, or wouldn't she have presented him to the pastor as her husband to be and the pastor sure would have asked those questions.... This is a case of PASTOR OVER DO...

The pastor was wrong because he had no business judging the intention of the marriage. Pastors, priests, nuns etc have done the same to get legal residence. People marry for different reasons but stay in the relationships for different reasons too. In Many people married for papers but love kept them together till death parted them. Many people married for paper and discovered they could not find better partners than their spouses. What bring people together is not always what keep them together. Pastor should have minded his own business and adopted the same dogmas they (pastors) quote when they do or go wrong things - "judge not anyone, leave judgment for God, and calling such act a blasphemy".

After asking some questions at the altar, the pastor came to the conclusion that the man is getting married to the woman because of papers to avoid deportation by immigration officers.

The pastor said who kissed the bride while walking out said: "Does he have papers in Canada? That's the simple question I ask... Have a wonderful day and God bless you all."

"It's a marriage of immigration not a marriage of love. He has no papers. I'm not going to sit here and push my daughter on that man. No!" the pastor added.
