Award-winning actress Funke Akindele became the first evictee in the on-going Gulder Ultimate Search Celebrity Showdown. The Jenifa star was shown the way out after her poor performance during the task for the day.
All of the contestants were mandated to stand on a raised narrow platform. After remaining in the same position for almost two hours, the show‘s anchor, Genevieve Nnaji drilled them further by asking them to each stand on one leg.
Unable to bear the torture any longer, coupled with the scorching sun, Akindele placed her suspended leg on the platform against the task master‘s directive. That singular act earned her an eviction notice.
Announcing the first evictee was an uphill task, but the anchor pulled it off well later in the day at the captain‘s cove. After rewarding Weird MC, who came tops in the task, it was time to let the cat out of the bag.
With gazes not trained at anyone in particular, Genevieve announced, ”Funke Akindele, for being disqualified after failing your task, you have been evicted. You will immediately get your axe and smash your calabash, pack your luggage and vacate this camp.”
After her eviction, Funke said, “I feel really bad having to leave at this stage because of my fans, who had expected me to bring home the grand prize. But on the other hand, I feel good I am retiring to the comfort of my bed; as you can see, I am very tired already.”
Born on August 24, 1976 in Ikorodu, Lagos. Akindele worked in a TV station before embracing Nollywood. During the early stages of her acting career, she played a lead role in the family-oriented Nigerian TV show, I Need to Know. She holds an Ordinary National Diploma in Mass Communication from the Ogun State Polytechnic and a law degree from the University of Lagos. In 2009 she won the African Movie Academy Award for Best Actress in a Leading Role.
The remaining nine celebrities contesting for the ultimate celebrity diadem in the maiden edition of the Gulder Ultimate Search Celebrity Showdown are : Princess, Emeka Ike, Muma Gee, Daddy Showkey, Chioma Chukwurah, Abbass Akande Obesere, Weird MC, Dare Art Alade, and Bob-Manuel Udokwu.
