Authorities of the Federal Polytechnic on Sunday announced the immediate closure of the institution indefinitely over violent protest by students over death of two of their members in a curious circumstance.

However, the polytechnic authorities did not confirm whether any student actually died, as Mrs. Sade Adediran, Registrar of the institution, in a statement only announced the immediate and indefinite closure of the school.

The statement warned that any student found on campus after the closure would be apprehended and made to face the consequences.

NAIJAPALS  learnt that the students were angered by sudden death of two of their colleagues in quick succession after they had complained of malaria attack.

The deaths were reported in less than 24 hours after the deceased were said to have been taken to the institution’s clinic for medical attention in the early hours of Saturday.

The health centre where the deceased gave up the ghosts had been set ablaze by irate students.

The identities of the deceased students are yet to be ascertained as at press time.

Apart from also destroying other property on sight, the students blocked all roads leading to and from the institution and disallowed free movement of vehicles.

One of the students, who asked not to be mentioned, described the attitude of the polytechnic to their welfare and wellbeing.

He alleged that each time any of them was sick, the only drug available at the health centre was paracetamol.

He said that the same negative attitude repeated itself when the two students  were taken to the centre, alleging that rather than treat them with effective malaria drugs, the only drug offered them was paracetamol.
