An eyewitness has revealed details how a religious clash between Christians and Muslims started in Kaduna state. A youth leader in Kaduna, Dan Najeriya has revealed how a religious clash between Muslims and Christians escalated leaving at least seven persons dead.

Najeriya told Premium Times that the incident happened in Kasuwar Magani community ‎in Kajuru Local Government Area of Kaduna State. Many shops were looted and razed, leaving residents to scamper in different directions for safety.

Narrating how it happened, Najeriya said:
Quote
”Some girls wanted to change their religion but were scolded by some youth in the community."

Tempers flared thereafter and that snowballed into the crisis. Worship places and shops were said to have been torched during the incident.
Quote
“I can confirmed to you that shops and houses have been set ablaze by a group of youth in the area.
“Many people have been injured and we also feared some even lost their lives because I saw three dead bodies with my eyes,”
Dan Najeriya added.

However, spokesman for the Kaduna State Police Command, Mr Aliyu Mukhtar, confirmed to ChannelsTv that seven people died in the tragic incident. Meanwhile, Governor Nasir el-Rufai has condemned the attack and vowed to have the perpetrators prosecuted.

El-Rufai, who spoke through his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Mr. Samuel Aruwan, directed the prosecution of all persons responsible for the mayhem. El-Rufai said security agencies must investigate the incident, arrest and make available for prosecution the perpetrators.

He condemned the violence, and expressed regrets about the lives lost, just as he expressed sympathy for vitcims’ families.
Quote
“The government has directed the State Emergency Management Agency to take inventory of damages and provide relief materials with immediate effect.
“Security forces have been deployed to contain the situation, protect lives and properties and to prevent any further breakdown of law and order.

“The government urges all citizens and communities to reject violence and division, and uphold their neighbours in peace and harmony.”

Orchesreared violence and unrest in the country. God have mercy on your children as the nation seems helpless in defending its citizens.
