President Muhammmadu Buhari last night met with the governors of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

The close-door meeting, held inside the conference room of the First Lady’s Office at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa in Abuja, began at 9:00pm, on Tuesday.

The emergency meeting took place ahead of the eagerly anticipated national convention of the APC scheduled for June 23.

The governors in attendance include those of Kaduna, Adamawa, Edo, Imo, Kwara, Kebbi, Kano, Kogi, Benue, Katsina, Jigawa and Ogun States.

This comes after President Buhari had asked the APC governors to support the bid by a former governor of Edo State, Adams Oshiomhole, for the chairmanship of the party.

Oshiomhole, a vocal supporter of the president, is seeking to replace the outgoing chairman, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, also from Edo State.

Oyegun last month withdrew from the chairmanship race after his quest for a one-year extension was scuttled by party members loyal to national leader Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
