Gunmen suspected to be Fulanis, on Sunday shot and critically wounded a farmer at Ninte village in Jema’a Local Government Area of Kaduna State. Youth leader of Ninte community, Adamu Habu, who spoke in an interview with Salama News, said the victim, Dare Michael, was returning from his farm in Dogon Kurmi, when he was attacked.

He said the victim had gone to inspect his farmland at about 4pm yesterday, when he was accosted by the assailants who shot at him at close range.

Adamu Habu said the attackers, who shot Michael in the arm and neck, left him for dead, until he was found and rushed to the hospital. He disclosed that vigilant youth in the village had earlier noticed the presence of suspicious herdsmen, about a week ago which was promptly reported to security operatives there.

The youth leader also said the past week had witnessed destruction of crops by cattle, a development the village head, Mallam Hassan Jatau, brought to the attention of the Fulani community head, Ardo Haruna. Adamu Habu said he prevailed on the irate youth not to take the law into their hands and charged them to remain vigilant.

He said women and children had deserted the village for fear of the unknown, and appealed to authorities concerned to be proactive to ensure their safety and quick return. As at the time of this report, the Chairman of Jema’a Local Government Council, Peter Danjuma Averik, had not been reached for comments.

Meanwhile, when Salama News visited the Hospital where the victim is being treated of the gunshot wounds, doctors say he is responding to treatment, as he was seen sleeping.

It will be recalled that Ninte village was attacked by gunmen in 2016 in which scores of lives were lost and property worth millions of naira destroyed.
