A 45-year-old commercial motorcyclist, Julius Ochim, has been arrested for impregnating his daughter, in their Shagamu residence in Ogun State.
The pregnancy led to the delivery of a baby girl, who is presently three years old. The victim (names withheld) revealed that her father had been having canal knowledge of her since she was 13, after her mother’s demise. She stated that she discovered she was pregnant after three months, at the age of 18 and was encouraged by her father to keep the pregnancy. But trouble according to her, broke out when she became 21 and had a man who asked for her hand in marriage.
According to her “When I informed my father, he was furious and said I must not get married. He was adamant despite entreaties from some relatives who did not know what had been transpiring between us. “I had to report to the police because I wanted to be free from his bondage”. Asked why it took her long to expose the abominable act, she replied, “he told me that the consequence of exposing him was terrible.” Her father was apprehended following her report.
Confirming the arrest of the Cross River State- born, spokesman for the Ogun State Police Command, Abimbola Oyeyemi, said: “The man was arrested following a complaint by his daughter who reported at Shagamu Police Division that her father had been having carnal knowledge of her since the death of her mother in 2009, consequent upon which she got pregnant for him and gave birth to a baby girl who is three years old. “She stated further that her father used to threaten her with cultural implication of refusing to sleep with him. Upon the receipt of the report, the DPO Shagamu Division CSP Aduroja Moses led detectives to the man’s residence, where he was promptly arrested.
“Upon interrogation, the suspect confessed to the commission of the crime but blamed it all on the devil’s handwork. “He confessed to have been sleeping with the girl since the demise of his wife and that he started having problem with the girl when she started going out with another person whom she said she wanted to get married to. “He confessed that the he was trying to prevent the girl from getting married so as to continue having his way with her. “Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police CP Ahmed Iliyasu, has directed that the suspect be transferred to the Anti-Human Trafficking and Child Labour Unit of State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, for further investigation and prosecution of the suspect.”
