Abuja, Nigeria (AHN) - During a simple ceremony on Thursday morning Goodluck Jonathan was sworn in as Nigeria's newest president. The ceremony held in Abuja was presided over by the Chief Justice of the Federation, Aloysius Katsina-Alu, at the presidential villa.

The swearing-in ceremony came hours after the death of Umaru Musa Yar'Adua after a long illness.

The 52-year-old Jonathan has been serving as acting president since February. Yar'Adua had undergone treatment for heart and kidney problems and had been on a three-month sabbatical from heading the government.

The Swear In also happen during the burial has well. This is a disgrace and I don't care how many persons want to blast me after this. Your President dies and no dignitaries from the African continent wa present at the burial. A good man being put down disgracefully.

President Jonathan Goodluck took his oath before 9 a.m. Thursday, May 6, 2010.  Former President Yardua was put to rest at 2:00 p.m.  We are grateful to God that there was a peaceful transition of power.  This is how democracy should work and it is working according to Nigeria's constitution.

Moslems have a rule of burial within 24 hours of death.

The 7 days national day of mourning will allow dignitaries to show up and pay their condolences.

There would be Omatu. No one was going to cause any disruption were the swearing in is concern. Don't forget that the man has been acting in this Position since February. The Swearing In was just formality. Anyway I wish President Jonathan all the best in his tenure.
