Ochanya, the 13 years old girl allegedly segxwal abused by a lecturer and his son on several occasions, has died after a prolonged battle with Vesicohoneypotl fistula (VVF) and other health complications.
She died, on Wednesday, at a private hospital in Otukpo, Benue State. The suspects, Andrew Ugbokolo, 51, the Head of Department, Catering and Hotel Management at the Benue State Polytechnic and his son, Victor, a final year student of Animal Production at the Federal University of Agriculture, Makurdi, have been arrested
According to reports, the duo consistently molested Ochanya since she was 8. She was living with the family due to her relationship to the man’s wife (Mrs. Felicia Ochiga-Ogbuja) who is her cousin.
It was gathered that the girl took ill but it was difficult for the hospitals in Ugbokolo to detect exactly what was wrong even when she collapses occasionally.
Ochanya, after serious interrogation, revealed how long the molestation had been taking place and how she was threatened with death if anyone got to know of what was happening. .
The lecturer was said to have pleaded that the matter be settled amicably, as it is a family issue. However, the case is currently in court and hearing will resume on the 5th of November, 2018.
