THE Akwa Ibom State Police Command on Monday said it had dislodged suspected members of an armed robbery gang in Ikot Ekpene Local Government Area of the state and arrested a self-styled pastor, one Victor Ekpo, with two locally-made pistols.
The suspected bandits were said to have stormed a popular hotel in Ikot Ekpene but security operatives came to the rescue of the guests.
Parading the suspects in Uyo, the state capital, on Monday, the Commissioner of Police, Akwa Ibom State Command, Mr. Walter Rugbere, said that two of the suspects were killed during a shoot-out with the police.
Rugbere listed items recovered from the suspects to include two locally made pistols, seven live cartridges, three phone handsets, a piece of iron rod, an envelope containing a prayer request and the sum of N44,290 allegedly stolen from a church they had earlier attacked.
