Justice Onnoghen, the embattled Chief Justice of Nigeria again shunned the Code of Conduct Tribunal, CCT trial today, in which the Nigerian government asked him to resign. Aliu Umar, the Nigerian government prosecutor in his open address at the resumed hearing, wondered if the letter written to Onnoghen has been received or not. The Chief Justice of Nigeria was however absent at the tribunal, as President Muhammadu Buhari’s government accused him of failing to declare some of his assets when he was sworn-in.
However, sources present at the courtroom disclosed that some protesters who were led by some leaders of Coalition of United Political Party (CUPP), protested in order not to allow the Chairman of the Tribunal, Justice Danladi Umar, issue warrant of arrest against Onnoghen.
Armed with placards with various inscriptions such as:

“Amaechi, El-Rufai, Akpabio, Malami, APC; brains behind Onnoghen’s trial”, and “CCT trail of Onnoghen is unconstitutional”
among others, it was gathered that they were moving towards the main gate of the CCT where policemen are providing security.A federal high court ruled last week that Mr Onnoghen’s trial be suspended, but government supporters have argued that the ruling was an anomaly because the tribunal has parallel powers as federal high courts.
They argued that only the Court of Appeal could issue rulings that would be binding on the tribunal. The Court of Appeal fixed January 24 for hearing on the matter.
