He said the suspension was based on the order of Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) on January 23, 2019.

Already Justice Tanko Mohammed from Bauchi State has been sworn-in at the Council Chambers, Presidential Villa, Abuja, to be on acting capacity.

The suspension follows the allegations of fraudulent assets declaration charge against Walter Onnoghen, as dectectives may have also found more undeclared funds in his accounts.

According to a report by The Nation newspaper, detectives found “suspicious” transactions, including an $800,000 Standard Chartered Bank investment subscription.

Also found is $630,000 lodged in some of the accounts through what is described as “structured payments” in tranches of $10,000 each.

Most of the lodgments, effected between 2012 and 2016, were undeclared in Justice Onnoghen’s assets declaration form, the sources claimed, pleading not to be named because of the “sensitivity” of the investigation.

The Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit (NFIU) has restricted the operation of five accounts with about $3million.

JUST IN: President @MBuhari suspends the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN) Walter Samuel Nkanu Onnoghen and appoints Mr. Ibrahim Tanko Muhammed as acting CJN.

That was fast. Aren’t Judicial nominations subject to National Judicial Council approvals and subsequent clearance by the Senate? There’s something fishy about this hasty appointment. I can smell it.

What a shame.  If this outgone CJN has any element of dignity in him he would have done the obvious  since the fraudulent allegation against him hit the airwaves.  The man did not deny he is not the owner of the monies in question,  but he was giving lame excuses why he did not declare them at the Cafe of Conduct Bureau as expected,  pray,  when was he intending to declare these monies - after his retirement?  Boyed by his South South  Constituency and a battery of senior lawyers who labelled themselves SANs,  what I may call stupid advcates of Nigeria,  the stupid man was e'ven still trying to dare the Government.  I don't know how these law breakers expect the President to fight corruption when the Judiciary itself  is enmessed in this shameful business.  Now that he is suspended,   this stupid man will see the other side of his instigators.
