Following a tip-off by a concerned citizen, of a mentally challenged woman inhabiting a corner of a street in Awka, the Anambra State Commissioner for Women and Children Affairs, Lady Ndidi Mezue, led a team of professionally trained welfare workers to Club Street Awka (former Abakaliki street) where the pregnant mentally challenged woman was sighted.

The team, with the help of a Civil Defence Officer, rescued the woman and carefully relocated her to a facility in Awka, where she will be rehabilitated and cared for, while the search for her family has also commenced.

You will recall that the ministry, few months ago, rescued a mentally challenged teenager, who few weeks ago put to bed, while still being rehabilitated at government owned Children home at Awka.
