Our young women are being harassed and assaulted by members of the Nigerian police, more particularly the police officers from the Utako police station in Abuja. Many of the women have revealed that they were arrested for no apparent reason aside that they were just women out on the street. The sad part of the story is that there police men even made love to many of the arrested women, there were allegations that the police officers used sachet water plastic packaging as a condom to make love to the young women. I hope the relevant authorities do take a good look into this situation and take appropriate steps to address the situation. You can watch video of the women narrating their ordeal in the hands of these evil police officers.
The press briefing:
I’m at the Press Conference organized by Education as a Vaccine, FIDA, and Dorothy Ndjemanze Foundation, among others, on #AbujaPoliceRaidonWomen. I’ll share snippets of video showing these women’s experiences. Caution: it’s grim stuff.

I didn’t get all the stories, these are just some. They all cover much the same territory: women arrested for being merely just being there under the most frivolous of reason ma, arrested then raped and abused. this state-sanctioned violence and must stop #AbujaPoliceRaidonWomen

<After beating and molesting these women, these women are extorted of money. The women at the briefing said they were made to pay between 3 and five thousand each. They’re pressed to plead guilty then asked to pay a fine as high as 15k. #AbujaPoliceRaidonWomen

If they even make it to mobile courts, women are sometimes even refused legal representation. From top to bottom, this is inhumane, unconstitutional and against the law. #AbujaPoliceRaidonWomen
