On a sunny afternoon in Enugu City one cannot help but hear the sounds of bulldozers plowing away within Independence Layout phase II a promising new area acquired by the State Government to expand the already existing highbrow independence layout. Some areas which had distorted the beauty of the layout have been reclaimed and given a new makeover.  Parts of the owo river layout and  the republic layout were acquired by government and renamed independence layout phase 2.

Within one of the pathways a young man wearing a navy blue oxford shirt, dark blue khaki trousers and wellington boots confidently stands overseeing a bulldozer clearing the area and entrance pathway. “We plan on clearing the entire area and establishing a road path for all those in this community who wish to come into the area and start work on their respective properties but cant” Says Chukwuma Okeke-Ojiudu an Investor, Public Servant and founder of Ojiudu Rock Ltd a Real Estate and Investment Company carrying out the work. He wants to clear and establish a pathway for easy accessibility in the area where his Land is also located.

I don’t have to do it but I want to, the sooner this Road is accessible for people in this community the sooner we will have speedy development in the area.  This will not only be convenient for everybody living in the area, it will also help people who are hesitant to start work on their land due to bushes and lack of a road path”. Chukwuma is a member of the prominent Okeke-Ojiudu Family. He is the son of Hotelier and Businessman Chief Tony Okeke-Ojiudu (Zodiac) and Grandson of the Late great Chief P.N Okeke-Ojiudu Minister of Agriculture (first republic) and Real Estate Titan. Like his grandfather Chukwuma has also acquired a taste for prime real estate. He is the owner of a 2500sqm piece of Land within the same area which is being developed by Ojiudu Rock Ltd.

The chairman of the home owners Association Independence layout phase II Dr Amogu stated that this was a welcomed development. ‘We encourage and applaud the efforts in opening and clearing the area. Congratulating the work being done he went on to state that “We are very thankful for the work being done in this community. This will help improve accessibility in the area and speed up development”.
