The World Health Organization (WHO) has officially added addiction to video games to the Mental Health Disorder diseases.

In its International Classification of Diseases (ICD), the addiction to digital and video games is described as “a pattern of persistent or recurrent gaming behavior” that becomes so extensive it “takes precedence over other life interests”.

The WHO’s expert on mental health and substance abuse, Shekhar Saxena, said some worst cases occur when a gamer plays for up to 20 hours a day, forgoing sleep, meals, work or school and other daily activities.

Read the official definition of gaming disorder from the WHO:

Quote
“A pattern of persistent or recurrent gaming behavior (‘digital gaming’ or ‘video-gaming’), which may be online (i.e., over the internet) or offline, manifested by:

Impaired control over gaming (e.g., onset, frequency, intensity, duration, termination, context);
Increasing priority given to gaming to the extent that gaming takes precedence over other life interests and daily activities; and
Continuation or escalation of gaming despite the occurrence of negative consequences.

The behavior pattern is of sufficient severity to result in significant impairment in personal, family, social, educational, occupational or other important areas of functioning.”

I don't believe in this! Good day. I have been playing Dota 2 for a long time and never had any problems. I even spend some money on accounts. I didn't buy them, but several times I use dota 2 mmr boost help to get higher rank. It is much more interesting to play with more experienced players! That's all!

If a person finds it easier to find friends and communicates with them in the game, does that also count as an addiction?

People are different, and their life circumstances are just as different. So I'm afraid I have to disagree with that opinion. You shouldn't attribute a person's addiction to video games just because they spend a lot of time playing them. If we like something and are passionate about it, we're willing to spend whole days doing it. Abusing games is bad, of course, but what if a person is more comfortable and enjoys it? For example, I like to sit around playing Minecraft with my friends all evening. That does not mean that I am addicted to games. We need to spend more time on this issue and separate the people who need help and those for whom gaming is a hobby.
