Movie producer, Olaide Olabanji has been accused of rape by both Wumi Toriola and Kemi Afolabi but sadly, the misogynistic Yoruba tradition that enforces women to be like slaves to their men and younger people should never speak where older ones are present is cutting the light on her story. Many of the yoruba people on her page are blaming her and even shaming her for talking about the topic now, they told her that she is a woman and should be used to it. She granted an interview a year ago speaking about thesame topic and about Olaide Olabanji but due to the recent COZA/Busola Dakolo issue, she has now decided to speak out, see the videos she released below:
and she wrote:
Following the Busola Dakolo saga, I overheard the conversation of two young ladies on set narrating their experiences with the same man, then I decided to unmask him and call him out.
I didn’t share that story to generate attention or make it to some newspaper headlines, I shared it in a bid to sensitize especially young ladies who have chosen this same career path as mine and also send a signal to this man, hoping he would desist from such evil acts.
I am glad Mr Olaide Olabanji didn’t deny those allegations, he rather chose to slut shame and insult me, which is a very common trait of misogynistic and evil men like him, I would not succumb to suppression or intimidation by words coming from a man of his caliber, i would rather stick to my art and continue to share my story as a testimonial that women can be great and achieve amazing things in life even in a society dominated by men like him!
This is an issue we must all fight against in unison, rape is a menace that shouldn’t be condoned, we need to continually sensitize ourselves and keep fighting to create a safe and abuse free society for ourselves and the generation unborn!
