MADAGASCAR
Madagascar’s dream tournament debut at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations hit new heights as they defeated three-time winners Nigeria to progress into the knockout stages as Group B winners.
Ranked 108th in the world, nobody expected Madagascar to produce anything in their first Africa Cup of Nations appearance but will now feel capable of anything and head into the knockout stages with no injury concerns.
DR CONGO
DR Congo were able to bounce back from their poor perfomances in their opening two games in the Africa Cup of Nations to hammer Zimbabwe and sneak through to the last 16 as one of the best third-placed teams.
Needing a big win to give themselves a chance, DR Congo did not disappoint as they claimed a 4-0 win thanks to goals from Jonathan Bolingi, Britt Assombalonga and a double from Cedric Bakambu.
The talent is there within the DR Congo squad and if they realise it, they could have a very successful tournament but will need to be consistent in front of goal with competition for places in the final third potentially helping to raise their standards.
THE PREDICTION
Madagascar are the story of the Africa Cup of Nations so far after progressing to the knockout stages in their first appearance at the tournament. They will not want their journey to end just yet but face a tricky contest against a potentially rejuvenated DR Congo. They were on the brink of elimination in the group stage but bounced back to sneak through after a big win over Zimbabwe and if they can build on that, they could be a threat but Madagascar will be no pushovers.
