Pregnant Woman Fined £50 By A Taxi Driver For Making Mess In Taxi After Her Waters Broke

A pregnant woman whose waters broke in the back of the taxi has claimed she was slapped with a "£50 fine for making a mess" by the driver.

Dana Harrison, 23, said she started to give birth in the back of the taxi and "had the babies head in her hands" when it arrived at St James's Hospital in Leeds, West Yorks.

She claims the driver, whose name isn't known, demanded to know if she was "going to clean the car?" and pay £50 for "making a mess".

Dana frantically negotiated with the cabby and agreed to pay him £30 on top of the £6 fare.


But she said the driver still insisted she cleaned the backseat of the taxi as she was being wheeled away from the cab by a midwife.

Dana gave birth to baby boy Blake, who weighed 7lbs 7oz, in front of the hospital , eleven days earlier than expected.

Dana said: "I started giving birth in the taxi and the driver just started shouting at me about making a mess.

"I was so stressed because I really wasn't expecting to give birth so soon.

"When we got to the hospital he was asking for £50 but all I had was £30 so I just gave him that, he wasn't happy.

"I got put into a wheelchair and gave birth there and then. He was still shouting at me.

"He said he was going to wait outside for someone to bring him some wipes, he even wanted me to come back out and clean up.

"There wasn't even that much mess, it was just a bit of water, most of it was in my trousers.

"He was such a horrible man, I hope no one else has to go through what I have."

Dana was at home with her sister when she went into labour on Monday and she immediately called Roadrunners taxi firm for a lift to the hospital.
