This is the kind of team we should build on. They tried atleast despite the fact that the argentines have very renowed skillful players, we were still able to hold them down with that lone goal. God will continue to help us in the world cup---AMEN

Defensive error costs us the match, says Lagerback

Quote
Super Eagles coach, Lars Lagerback has blamed his team’s narrow 1-0 loss to Argentina to an unfortunate defensive lapse.

Lagerback at the post-match conference, bemoaned the momentary lost in concentration that led to the lone goal against his team.

“It was unfortunate that it was a mistake from us that led to the goal,” he declared.

“Now the most important thing is to look towards the next game and go on to win it. I did not see much of South Korea – Greece, just a few minutes before we left the hotel,” he concluded.

Nigeria will face Greece in their second Group B encounter in Bloemfontein on June 17.

War of the coaches: Lagerback and Maradona

However, Super Eagles goalkeeper, Vincent Enyeama, today displayed some heroics to check Argentina’s talisman, Lionel Messi, to keep the score line low at 1-0 following the stunning low header by Gabriel Heinze in the sixth minute inside Johannesburg’s packed Ellis Park stadium.

With the victory Argentina, whose coach Diego Maradona, was under pressure all through the game, joined Korea Republic on three points. But the Asians top the group on goals difference having beaten Greece 2-0 earlier.

Eagles undoing was their wasteful finishing, especially from substitute Uche Kalu who tapped a cross from Yakubu Aiyegbeni over the bar from close range.
