The Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, on Thursday inaugurated a 13-member Rural Grazing Area Committee, for the settlement of herdsmen to reduce the incessant herdsmen/farmers clashes.
While inaugurating the committee at the Government House, Ganduje said the goal of the project was to confine the herdsmen to a settlement, adding that the state government would provide them with basic infrastructure.
Ganduje listed the infrastructure to be provided in the settlement to include a clinic, schools, water and market, among others.
The governor said, “This project will be jointly financed by the state government and the Islamic Development Bank. The bank will provide a substantial part of the funding, while the state government will provide the rest.”
Ganduje expressed confidence that as soon as the Ruga settlement came on stream, it would curb the persistent herdsmen/farmers clashes which often led to loss of lives and property.
The Chairman of the committee, Dr Jibril Mohammed, promised that the committee would discharge its responsibilities in accordance with its terms of reference.
