The foreign and commonwealth office of the United Kingdom and the Department of Travel for the the United states have issued a travel warning for their citizens against Kogi and Bayelsa states in Nigeria in lure of the forthcoming governorship elections which has been historically marred with violence and large scale rioting. Here is the official statement that was released:
“There have been reports of politically related violence and deaths in recent days. If you’re in these areas or decide to travel, you should continue to avoid large gatherings, follow the advice of local authorities and use local radio and TV to stay updated on the current security situation.”
Warnings like this is expected because election violence is very prevalent in Nigeria and it is only right to warn citizens before hand
