President Muhammadu Buhari has arrived Egypt after leaving Abuja on Tuesday afternoon to attend the ASWAN Forum on Peace and Sustainable Development in Africa.

The President was accompanied to Egypt by Governors Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State, Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa State and Godwin Obaseki of Edo State.

The Aswan Forum for Sustainable Peace and Development will provide the first of its kind platform to address these inseparable issues- Peace and Development.

The Forum, which will be held in December of every year, will bring together heads of states and governments, leaders from national governments, regional and international organizations and financial institutions, the private sector, and civil society, as well as visionaries, scholars, and prominent experts for a context-specific, action-oriented, and forward looking discussion on the threats and challenges, as well as opportunities, ahead.

The initiative is being launched by the Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi in his capacity as the Chairman of the African Union (AU) and as an advocate of Post-Conflict Reconstruction and Development in Africa – a recurring theme of his tenure as the AU Chairman.

It is also grounded in the AU’s Agenda 2063: The Africa We Want, and the search for African solutions to African problems.
