A soldier was killed on Tuesday when gunmen attacked the country home of former president, Goodluck Jonathan.

According to reports by Gistmania, the gunmen who came in five speedboats attacked the former president's home located at in Otuoke Community of Ogbia Local Government Area of Bayelsa State.

The attack reportedy occurred at about 2am after Jonathan moved to his Yenagoa home at 12am.

The soldiers on duty at the house engaged the gunmen killing three of them.

A source who spoke on the attack said,

Quote
"The gunmen were approaching the house when they were sighted by the soldiers. "The gunmen calculated wrongly when they went for the military gunboat but it was not mounted. "The soldiers while engaging the gunmen at the back of the house were not aware that some of the hoodlums were coming into the house on land. Those gunmen on foot shot dead a soldier and shot another in the leg. "They escaped after sighting reinforcement for the soldiers. "The hoodlums abandoned a boat filled with blood. We asked an eyewitness at the jetty and we were told that the gunmen were moving some bodies of their colleague into another boat."

Insecurity in Nigeria that a former president residence could be attacked .This is getting too serious .This is a big opportunity for the government to increase security infrastructure ,recruits and train jobless Nigerian in the sector .I mean ,Nigeria has the manpower .Huge population is a blessing and shouldn’t be a curse if the government would utilize its Human Resources .China and the huge populated nations are progressing mainly because of their aggressive deployment of human population in vital sectors of the country and its institutions.First thing before development is security , without security there is no development. Therefore, it would be most necessary to tap from the population.Recruits young graduates ,train and deploy them into various strategic  And vulnerable locations .

Very well said. There is urgent need for state and local govt policing with at par salary to the federal police. These hoodlums don't come from another planet. And, I hope Jonathan can see the fall out of his inactions and docile attitudes to insecurity which has now reached its peak!
