Two children of a landlord, Lewis, 23 and Ezekiel Echefu, have been remanded at the Kirikiri Maximum Security Prisons, Apapa, Lagos, Nigeria on the order of a magistrate for allegedly removing the teeth of their tenant, Ndubuisi Azuma.

They were sent to prison after being charged before the Ejigbo Magistrate’s Court for attacking the tenant with an iron key and removing his teeth.

The incident happened at their residence, 1, Ezekiel Adinpeku Street, off St. Saviour Bus Stop, Ijegun, outskirts of Lagos State, Nigeria.

Trouble started when the landlord, Joseph Echefu, allegedly gave the tenant a notice to quit his house before December 2010, claiming that he wanted to renovate it.

Before the expiration of the notice, the landlord allegedly consulted health workers at Igando LCDA to force the tenant out by accusing him of not cleaning his environment.

This incident generated bad blood between the tenant and the landlord.

On the day of the incident, the landlord reportedly ordered that the gate should be locked but the tenant broke the key.

The landlord’s children reportedly fought the tenant and in the process used a key to break his teeth.

The matter was reported at the Ikotun Police Station and they were arrested and charged before the Ejigbo Magistrate’s Court for assault, an offence contrary to Section 338, Cap.32, Vol. 2, Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2003.

They pleaded not guilty to the charge and  Magistrate M. B. Folami granted them bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties. The matter has been adjourned till 6 September, 2010.
